Twilio is a third party company that adds sms/text to smart phone functionality to your REDCap survey projects. Instead of sending survey invite through email, a Twilio enabled REDCap project can send suvey invite through sms/text to the respondent’s smart phone.
To setup Twilio, the study team will need to do the following:
- Arrange with your department to setup a PO or credit card payment for Twilio.
- Go to https://www.twilio.com and setup a paid account (a trial account will not function with REDCap)
- Once the account is setup, turn off the ‘Request Inspector’ feature within your Twilio account as your REDCap project will not be able to complete Twilio set up until this is turned off. This should be in Dashboard->Programmable voice->Settings->Request Inspector within your Twilio account.
- Provide your REDCap administrator with the Twilio Account SID, Twilio Auth Token and Twilio phone number.
- Once Twilio has been setup in your project, you can have the option to sms/text survey invites to your respondents.
